— What does it really mean? —
Working in the mental health arena we expect to work with those dealing with trauma. As I have been working with clients, I have noticed that many of them do not even understand what trauma is, let alone how it has impacted their life. As a therapist, I knew I wanted to work with those dealing with trauma and thought I had a solid definition and a firm foundation to understand trauma. However, I have begun to notice that trauma is far more complex than I first thought. In this workshop we will look at the imprint of trauma on the brain, body, and nervous systems. While exploring we will deal with how trauma holds us hostage to our past as well as robs us of our sense of self and purpose. We will also explore the neurobiological impact of traumatic stress. Lastly, we will examine a few assessments used for trauma and discuss how they can be used in your practice.
