Helping Adolescents Get to Adulthood Successfully

This workshop will look at the major factors impacting adolescents today as they make the journey from adolescence to independent adulthood. Considering the basics of development and the role of parenting, we will examine the challenges adolescents face in today’s world. These include social media, drugs, living through a pandemic, academic pressure and gender/sexuality issues. The focus of the workshop will be on what we as providers and parents can do to help the process of development and create independent, autonomous, contributing members of society.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges facing adolescents today
• Build a toolkit of strategies to use in various situations
• Recommend developmentally appropriate interventions based on an adolescent’s stage of development
• Recognize the signs of a family in trouble and identify effective interventions for that family
