Adolescence is always a confusing and trying time. It can be filled with many wondrous opportunities, but also just as many opportunities to get in trouble. Juveniles walk the fine line between delinquency and conformity on a daily basis. Yes, it has to do with keeping them safe and in a stable setting, but there are also many, many micro-situations that can push them just a little too far off the edge. In this workshop, we will discuss the signs and symptoms of at-risk youth, as well as how to help them to stray from a dangerous path once on it, or to hopefully never get on said pathway altogether. In these discussions, we will go over well-known delinquency and deviance theories, navigate the arguments surrounding taking individual theories in isolated circumstances, and the controversial “wayward girl” syndrome.
