Internships at FCS

Family Counseling Service offers internship placement opportunities for Bachelor’s-level Community Mental Health Intro programs, First-Year Master’s Practicum programs, and our Community Mental Health Academy Internship Program. Learn more about each of these opportunities in detail below.

Training behavioral healthcare clinicians since 1984, our internship programs accept a limited number of students each year from a variety of schools.

An emphasis is placed on experiential learning through clinical contact with a wide variety of client types, utilizing multiple theoretical constructs and techniques.

About:
General introduction and job shadowing with bachelors level opportunities in a Community Mental Health Setting.


Designed For:

  • Individuals pursuing a bachelors degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Individuals planning to work full-time in mental health field once obtaining Bachelors Degree.
  • Individuals considering part-time opportunities while pursing Masters degree in social work, counseling, or related field.


Details:

  • Who: Pre-Bachelors
  • Payment: Unpaid
  • Available Hours: 10-15 per week
  • Length: 4-6 weeks


Expect to Experience:

  • 15 hours in Reception/Records Management
  • 15 hours in Intake
  • 15 hours in Clinical Care Coordination
  • 15 hours in Assessments
  • Job shadowing and gaining experience in records requests, new client procedures, resource assistance, Medicaid assessments, and non-profit mental health
  • Eligibility to attend Friday clinical workshops and CEUs
  • Collaborate with over 40 active clinicians with diverse licensures and therapy specializations.

  • First-year Masters students pursuing a degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • Individuals considering part-time opportunities while pursuing a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • Individuals interested in Community Mental Health after obtaining a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.


Details:

  • Who: Current Masters Students
  • Payment: Unpaid
  • Available Hours: Typically 20 hours per week, dependent upon school requirements
  • Length: One Semester, dependent upon school requirements


Expect to Experience:

  • Perform the role of a Clinical Care Coordinator and/or Assessment Clinician.
  • Attend Friday clinical workshops and CEU (Continuing Education Unit) sessions weekly.
  • Observe Group Supervision sessions weekly.
  • Observe Group Therapy sessions.
  • Participate in weekly supervision meetings with a practicing clinician.
  • Attend at least one community outreach event.
  • Collaborate with over 40 active clinicians with diverse licensures and therapy specializations.

About:
In-depth training and hands on experience as a Behavioral Health Therapist in a Community Mental Health Facility.

Designed For:

  • Second Year Masters students pursing a degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Individuals interested in Community Mental Health after obtaining their masters degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Future therapists and counselors looking for a variety of experience with many demographics and client needs.


Details:

  • Who: Current Masters Students
  • Payment: $10,000 Stipend
  • Available Hours: Typically a minimum of 24 hours per week, dependent upon school requirements
  • Length: 10 months, July to April


Expect to Experience:

  • Perform in the role of a Behavioral Health Therapist.
  • Schedule a minimum of 15 client care hours per week to ensure availability after initial training.
  • Experience a variety of therapy types, including but not limited to: Play Therapy, School-Based Therapy, Individual Therapy (all age groups). Couples Therapy, and Family Therapy.
  • Attend Friday morning clinical workshops and weekly CEU sessions.
  • Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of individual supervision with an active Behavioral Health Therapist.
  • Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of group supervision each week.
  • Plan and participate in a minimum of two community outreach events.
  • Collaborate with over 40 active clinicians with diverse licensures and therapy specializations.
