Family Counseling Service Staff Spotlight: Magally Zavala

Q: How did you learn about FCS and what made you decide to work here?

A: My cousin Estrella used to be an Assessor here and let me know about an open position.

I was looking to get into the MH field and Estrella let me know she really enjoyed working here so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Q: What is your role at FCS?

A: I’m the Intake and Reception Manager and I help out with interpreting and translating when I have a chance. We are the main contact not only for new clients but current clients who may be experiencing issues, I do my best to help them solve the problem or to get connected to the right person or department.

Q: What do you think makes FCS special / what should people know about FCS?

A: The genuine care that staff has for clients. That’s the one thing I always tell people about; how great our staff is and how invested they are in clients’ well-being.

Q: What is your most memorable moment from working at FCS?

A: I have a lot! The start of the pandemic was a memorable time for most. I had to “temporarily” lay off half my team but as soon as we were able to get government funds (Thanks Eric!) everyone got to come back. Our team did our best to keep busy and help anywhere we could. As an agency, I think the pandemic was handled really well. I felt really thankful to be employed here at FCS.

Q: What is one thing people don’t know about you?

A: I love animals and would love to one day have a dog sanctuary for old/unwanted dogs.
